A draft Basic Assessment Report, dated December 2018, was made available to the registered interested and affected parties for comment from 07 December 2018 to 28 February 2019. Three layout alternatives were proposed.

A change to the project has occurred in that Alternative 1, which was recommended as the preferred alternative in the December 2018 BAR is no longer technically feasible for the reason following:

While the density of Alternative 1 can be accommodated in the current 16-kilometre (km) Urgent Protection Zone, the evacuation time for the zone is near to the allowed maximum of 16 hours. This implies that no other development, albeit smaller developments can be accommodated in this zone. In order to allow other future developments to be accommodated in the current traffic evacuation model, the Transport Development Agency: System Planning and Modelling Branch of the City of Cape Town has decided that they can no longer accommodate the high-density Alternative 1, as presented in the draft Basic Assessment Report.

With reference to the draft Basic Assessment Report of December 2018, Alternative’s 2, 3 and 4 are still applicable and relevant to this environmental impact assessment process.

The revised Basic Assessment Report is being made available for a 30-day commenting period, commencing on 25 July 2019 and close on 26 August 2019. A hard copy of the revised report has been placed at the Koeberg Library and you may download the report below. You may use this opportunity to submit a new comment or change the comment that you have already submitted in the previous public process on the draft report, if it is no longer valid. Please note that the assessment and recommendations made for Alternatives 2 or 3 in the December report have not changed.

Comments already received on the report dated December 2018 as well as from this public iteration will be addressed and reflected in the next revision of the Basic Assessment Report that will be made available to the public.

You may submit your comment to the contact details below on or before 26 August 2019:
